STEP ONE

It starts with a conversation, getting to know a bit about the subject. From there you share photos of the subject from different times in their life. This helps to get a better and more rounded sense of what changes through time, and what doesn't. In this particular case, my step-daughter Mackenzie, though 19 now, her image at this age really spoke to me. That innocence in her eyes still remains.

THE COMMISSION PORTRAIT PROCESS

As you can see in my work, mine are not your classic photo-real portraits. The "portrait" that you will commission is much more of an interpretation, born of working together and getting to know the subject. As my style is coined, "Figurative-Surrealism,"  be prepared for this piece to challenge the viewer to find the resemblance to the subject at first. But know that once you find it, it will create a connection in a way that no camera can capture. I hope you can see this in the example that I've chosen on this page.

STEP TWO

I will create a series of sketches for your approval, based on what I've seen in the photos, what I've heard over the phone, and what inspiration should strike as an outcome. I will choose three finalist to share with you. From that collection, the plan is to find one that speaks to you. I will also ask some very general questions regarding color palette, to make certain the piece feels at home in your home. We will also discuss a size that best suits your needs.

STEP THREE

I personally hand-stretch all of my canvases to custom dimensions. Now it's time to start painting. I will keep you appraised of my progress as your painting is completed. Once finished, I will take several photos to send to you via email. When everyone's happy, I will crate up your finished piece and ship. Custom framing is an option as well. Sturdy hanging hardware will already be in place—you simply need to find a special place to feature your piece and hang.
